Happy New Year my friends! I know I have been a little slow with bringing posts here in the new year, but I promise there is much more to come in the next few weeks. Today’s post is about a new look that I am embracing with my weekday wardrobe. I tend to get a little bored with fashion during these in between winter months of January and February. A great way to get out of that fashion rut is to try something new. I my case, I am embracing sweater dresses. This is a category that was not in my closet at all a year ago, but this season I seem to have acquired a number of new styles. I tend to go though phases with my clothes, and when I latch on to a style, I tend to go all in.
Sweater dresses are the perfect compromise for our very mild Southern California winter. I realize this is not a look that is practical for extreme cold temperatures, but it is ideal for those in between weather days. The sweater dress is a great look for when you want to be comfortable and cozy, but still look put together. It is also a very practical item to pack for travel because it doesn’t wrinkle.
In the past when wearing casual dresses in the winter, I would have worn opaque tights and shoes or short boots. This season I have branched out of that and I am now embracing over the knee boots with my casual dresses. They are heavy enough to go with a chunky sweater dress, but also elevate the look and give it balance. One styling tip for wearing over the knee boots with dresses, is to be sure there is a little leg showing between the top of the boot and the hemline of the dress. Otherwise, this look tends to be frumpy.
Below are several shots of current styles that I have added to my closest this season, along with some others that are still available in stores. I hope this inspires you to incorporate this new category into your closet. Happy Shopping!
