I'm Fairly Fond of Fair Isle

It’s finally sweater weather in Southern California! If you follow me on social media, you know that I am in the midst of my 12 days of sweaters posts. I have long been obsessed with sweaters and own way too many for the short sweater season we experience in LA. In my sweater collection this season, probably the ones I am most excited about involve boldly colored Fair Isle patterns. Stores this season are full of great fair Isle options, not only for adults, but kids too!

Before we get into the looks, here is a little background of these sweaters. Fair Isle is a traditional technique of knitting that creates patterns with multiple colors. It is named after Fair Isle, a tiny island in the north of Scotland. The official technique involving these intricate patterns, originates from this tiny island and first gained popularity in the 1920’s.

On a recent trip to Big Bear, a local mountain town, I found the perfect resort to feature these colorful knits. The Noon Lodge at Mallard Bay, is part chic ski chalet and part summer camp for adults. This resort, which was originally built in the 1950’s, was renovated and reopened in 2015. The much needed face lift turned this property into a boutique resort with sleek and simple, yet cozy and inviting design. My family stayed in the 3 bedroom cabin and enjoyed every moment. We loved the outdoor fire pit right outside our door. We also utilized the full kitchen to make dinner before enjoying a glass of wine in front of our living room fireplace. The Noon Lodge at Mallard May is exactly the kind of resort that was needed in the Big Bear area, and we definitely plan to visit again!
