Beginning with the official start of spring this week, I am launching a new series of weekly spring trend posts. This series will highlight trends I am seeing at all price points in the market, and that I have personally gravitated to for the season. Staying true to my usual, I have chosen clothing options that are very affordable, and paired them with timeless luxury accessories.
In this, my first installment of spring trend posts, I am focusing colorful stripes. I have noticed this stripe trend since fall, and am seeing it continue into spring and summer. I’m a big fan of anything striped, usuallt with a nautical vibe. However, this trend is a bit more 70’s feeling. These colorful pieces are typically cut so stripes hang vertically, as opposed to the the typical horizontal orientation of most nautical styles. If you read my very first blog post on my personal style, you know that I am a big fan of both 70’s and nautical styles. The best designer example I have seen of this trend is Tory Burch’s Spring 2018 nod to legendary interior designer, David Hicks. I have included some shots from her runway show, along with some original 70’s examples of this trend.
My Looks:
I have curated my own collection of bold stripes with a few blouses and dresses. Keeping in mind that I am a size 6-8, who is 40 year old mom, I chose pieces that would not only flatter my figure, but are also extremely affordable and wearable in every day life.
When my dad was in town recently, we shot my looks for this post at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage, CA. Californians, if you are ever in the desert, I highly recommend visiting this spot. It is the location of the famous Annenburg Estate that can be scheduled for tours, but it also includes a beautiful desert garden, gallery, and restaurant that is free to enter. This was a fabulous place to spend the afternoon strolling with the baby. It is likely a spot that we will return to every time we go to the desert in the future.
