Often with fashion trends, women over 40 have an instinctual immediate negative reaction. Common responses I hear when it comes to so many fashions is, “I could never wear that”, or “I wore that the first time around, I’m too old this time.” This too was my initial reaction when I heard that neon colors were going to be a thing for summer 2019. All I could think about was 1980’s spandex bike shorts and nylon track pants. That is, until I look a step back and thought it through. It was then that I decided to make this one of my trends to highlight from runway to real life.
I decided to channel my inner 2nd grade self a la 1985, and realized that if we were just talking about bright colors, there was no reason not to embrace this idea. After all, I am usually a girl who embraces color without much hesitation, why not wear a little neon? I found a few inexpensive neon pieces to add that pop of solid color to my wardrobe, without sacrificing my personal style.
Bright colors can make a great backdrop for fun summer accessories, and by grounding neons with black and white, I actually find they are quite wearable. Below are several options to bring a pop of neon orange, pink, green, or yellow into your summer style.
