I am always a huge fan of classic tartan plaids, but there is something about the winter holiday season that makes me even more obsessed. I have a dream of owning a home in the mountains with a giant fireplace and decor that is full of tartans in classic blues, greens and reds. In this post, you will notice everything from classic tartans to more modern color combinations with burgundy and bright blue. I have not only included several tops, dresses, and skirts, but also accessories. The looks range from dressy to casual and punk to demure, with everything in between. I hope you enjoy tartan as much as I do, and decide to incorporate this great pattern into your holiday and winter wardrobe.
Before we get to the looks, I want to dig deeper into the origins of tartan. Did you know that families, or clans in Scotland have their own distinct plaid? Many of the plaid patterns we see in today’s fashion actually originate from these family tartans. I happen to have some lineage from Scotland on my maternal grandmother’s side, and I have linked that clan plaid here. For your own amusement, if you have Scottish decent, you can plug the last name into this site to view your clan plaid.
