As part of an ongoing series I am calling “Wear Then, Now, and Later, I will be featuring several clothing capsules with pieces that can be worn in different ways for warmer or cooler climate. Considering obvious climate change and that certain parts of the world really never see true winter, I am conscious of the fact that many of us really aren’t actually wearing fall styles yet. I think back to my retail days when early fall selling was always tricky. Although people are admiring coats and sweaters in September, they usually aren’t ready to wear them, especially in Southern California. Thankfully retailers have become much more in tune with customers desire to “buy now, wear now”, and there are plenty of great early fall pieces that will work in all climates in September. I hope this series of posts inspires my readers to look into their closet or to shop this fall for great pieces that can be worn then, now, and later.
Group 1:
For Group 1, I chose this very lightweight stripe crossover top and dark denim as my base for both looks. In the first look, I paired the pieces with some short fringe booties to make the look feel like fall without making it too hot. Short booties are my favorite way to make my clothes feel like fall, even when I am still in short sleeves and even sleeveless. In the second look, I added this brown studded vegan leather jacket that you will see throughout all of the cooler weather looks in this post. I purchased this jacket from online boutique, Hazel and Olive, but unfortunately in the time I received the jacket to the time I posted this story, it was sold out. I contacted the boutique to see if it was on reorder and apparently it is sold out from the manufacturer. However, I have suggested some similar jackets at the end of this page. I also paired the outfit with my favorite tall cognac riding boots from Nine West that I have had for years to finish the off this great fall outfit.
Group 2:
In group 2, I chose my base as this bohemian printed top and a distressed jean skirt. I am so excited about this jean skirt! I haven’t owned one in years, but it is a great addition to my wardrobe, and can be worn in L.A. pretty much yer round.. In the first look, I kept things cool by choosing a suede open toe bootie, but made the look feel more fall by adding a felt hat. This is another trick to making clothes feel like fall when the temperatures have yet to fall. In the second look, I again added the same brown studded jacket and riding boots as in group 1 to take the look into cooler climate.
Group 3:
In Group 3, I made my base this beautiful flowy mustard print dress. For the first look, I again chose to wear a hat to make the look feel like fall, and I paired it with a fuller coverage brown sandal. These sandals are made by one of my favorite little shoe brands on earth, Ssh-oes. These are one of my best little secrets for comfortable, quality leather dress shoes. I can wear these heels for hours without pain and for me that is nothing short of a miracle. On to the second look, I paired that same great vegan leather jacket with the dress, but this time I used a stacked heel suede scrunchy boot from last years Nine West Collection to finish the look.
